II Characters


Main Character:

  • Kino - is a braved person that deals all the challenges in life in order to protect his family. He is also a good model of a fisherman, He is friendly with his neighbors. He can hear the different kinds of song, whether it is a song of the family or the song of the evil.




· I can identify with the main character when:
               I can identify the main character when the story talks about him, his life, his background, his family, and the problems that he had to face. 
        
· Supporting Characters: 

  • Juana - She is the loving, caring, and the very supporting wife of Kino. She always go with Kino although it is very dangerous outside. She is a positive minded, always praying for Kino and even praying for him.


  • Juan Tomas - He is the reliable and ever trusting brother of Kino. He always give Kino a advice for a better decision. 


  • Apolonia -  She is the wife of Juan Tomas, she was also nice to Kino and his wife Juana, she was always welcoming the couple into their brush house.



III Setting


· Describe the time and place of the story:

The story is set around the La Paz, Mexico which is a coastal town marked by economic, and social divisions.


Its setting is almost perfect because they lived near on the shore of the beach. Which was the main source of their food and income. This setting has an important effect on main character because it is in the beach that he could get the pearl.

IV Plot: The Action/Summary of What Happened in the Story


  • The baby was bitten by the scorpion.
  • Kino sailed to the sea to get something useful, and then he found a pearl.
  • They call a doctor to cure the baby.
  • They went to the city to sell the pearl
  • They Run away from the city and chased by 3 trackers.
  • They fought them in mountains during the night and they return into the shore of the beach and throw away the pearl.


V Theme


· What is the author trying to say in this story? Is there a moral to this story?

         The author is trying to show us on how to value our love for one another, just like Juan Tomas did in the story. And also the importance of the friendship and trust with one another.


          Yes, There is!, and the moral is Dont be such a greedy person!... because being a greedy, it makes you a monster not a person at all it destroys the relationship with your family.


· This book showed me/I learned from this story:


        This book showed me how to gain strength and courage in the middle of crisis, and also include prayers at all time. 

· State a problem in the story and how it was solved


      The baby that is being stung by the scorpion, Kino worked hard to find a pearl to please the doctor to cure the baby. And after a few days, the doctor came to Kino and cure the baby.
VI Evaluation of the Book


· What are your thoughts about the book? (did you or didn’t you like it and why?)


      I like this book!, it entertains me. I'm amazed of what had happen to the main character which is Kino, at first i thought that he will be a man with principle but later on, he was struck by the greatness of pearl and the pearl became his life. But in the end, he overcome it and choose to live with a peaceful life with his wife and his son Coyotito.

    - braved - brave is an adjective, it doesnt have a past tense
    - He is also a good model to other fishermen

    - I can identify with the main character when:
    you should have answered on how you can relate personally with the main character.
    - you didnt mention the death of Coyotito in your summary which was the most important event in the story.
    - be consistent in using the past tense when giving a report
